This was at the North End of 4th Ave East I think. The family owned many homes in the area.

Yes, My grandmother Matillda ( Tilly) Gould was a Schwan before she married my grandfather. It was her Brothers that had the brewery. It was just down the street from her house.on 4th. ave. east. I remember going down to where it used to be when i was a kid, and looked around the land, the buildings where all gone, this would be in the latwe 50s early 60’s .

My paternal grandmother, Mary Marvella Louise Schwan, told me stories from when she was a wee tad of a thing. She recounted toddling over to the brewery with her little tin cup for a few drops of the beer. Always makes me smile!

I cannot tell you how happy I am to see this image. My sister Susan may have just posted a comment about our grandmother Mary Marvella Cook nee Schwan who as a child, visited the brewery daily with her little tin cup.

Seeing this photo has made this story so very real.

I was born in this brewery in 1950 post my grandparents purchasing it. And yes, I did come back from University to vote for Owen Sound to again have alcohol to purchase.

A beautiful photograph! I am pleased to be living in that building right now. And yes, part of the original property is still here- along with some of the old stone walls and some of the orchard trees. A great house with a very interesting history.
